Installation Troubleshooting

This section provides instructions for resolving issues with installation.

If you are installing a configuration package that changes Internet Explorer settings, the Internet Explorer First Run Wizard appears. Complete the Internet Explorer First Run Wizard before finishing the Device Manager 2011 installation.

After you start the uninstallation process in Device Manager 2011 and then cancel it, the Common Components Service will not start.

To start the Common Components Service, open a Command Prompt window and enter the following Services Snap-in command:

net start “EDM Common Components Service”

For more information about using the Services Snap-in commands, see Start, stop, pause, resume, or restart a service on TechNet.

When you uninstall Device Manager 2011 server, the collections under All Windows Embedded Devices remain in your Configuration Manager installation. If you later re-install Device Manager 2011, you will have duplicate collections created in Configuration Manager. To avoid having duplicate collections, delete the collections and subcollections under All Windows Embedded Devices after you uninstall Device Manager 2011 server.
