Use the Import Software Updates Catalog Wizard in one of two ways in System Center Updates Publisher to import one or more software updates catalogs. To import more than one catalog, an import list must be configured prior to starting the wizard. Important
Updates Publisher 3.0, with the fix applied from Knowledge Base article 944693 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=108521) removes the quiet installation (/q) and no restart (/n) command-line parameters, if they are specified, for Windows Installer (.msi) or Windows Installer Patch software updates during the catalog import process. These command-line parameters are not supported by Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) 3.0 or WSUS 3.0 Service Pack 1. Updates Publisher 4.0 and Updates Publisher 4.5 include this fix.

Use the procedures in this topic to start and use the wizard to import software updates catalogs.

To use the Import Software Updates Catalog Wizard

  1. In the Updates Publisher console, navigate to any console tree node item.

  2. Right-click the console tree node item, and then click Import Update(s) to start the Import Software Updates Catalog Wizard.

  3. On the Select Import Method page, select one of the following settings:

    • Bulk Catalog Import: Specifies that all catalogs configured in the Import List tab of the Settings dialog box are automatically imported. The import list must contain at least one catalog for this option to be available. If enabled, this option is the default setting. Click Next and proceed to step 5.

    • Single Catalog Import: Specifies that a single software updates catalog will be imported. Click Next to proceed to the Select File page.

  4. Enter the source path to the software updates catalog, or click Browse to find the catalog. The catalog file can be on the local hard drive (c:\mycatalog\catalog.cab) or a UNC path (\\myserver\myshare\catalog.cab). Click Next.

  5. Click Next to import the catalogs.

    Note
    Updates Publisher 4.5 provides a proxy server credentials dialog box when the connection fails for the current user. When this dialog box displays, enter the proxy server name, port, and a user name and password for an account that has appropriate proxy server permissions.

    During the import process, the Catalog Validation - Security Warning might be displayed. Click Accept if the catalog is from a trusted publisher. When Always accept catalog from <publisher's name> is selected, the publisher is added to the trusted publishers list and all new content from the publisher will automatically be accepted. To remove a publisher from the trusted publishers list, see the Trusted Publishers tab of the Settings dialog box. To configure how to handle unsigned catalogs for each import location used by the Bulk Catalog Import option, edit the catalog from the Import List tab of the Settings dialog box.

    Caution
    Content from publishers that are not trusted can potentially harm client computers when scanning for updates. Accept content only from publishers you trust. If you no longer trust a publisher, remove the publisher from the trusted publishers list. Click Tell Me More in the Catalog Validation - Security Warning dialog box to go to a Web site that provides more information about accepting content from publishers that are not trusted.
  6. The Confirmation page displays a summary of the configured properties for the software updates catalogs that were imported. If an error occurred during the import process, the error message is displayed in the properties pane. Click Close to exit the wizard.

    Note
    If an error occurs during the software update creation process, review UpdatesPublisher.log in the user %TEMP% folder for more information.

To import catalogs from the System Center Updates Publisher start page

  1. In the Updates Publisher console tree, click System Center Updates Publisher. In the Catalog Updates pane, the catalogs that have been modified since they were last imported are displayed. Catalogs must be included in the import list, which is configured on the Import List tab of the Settings dialog box, and the Automatically check for updates to my catalogs on startup option must be enabled for catalogs to appear in the Catalog Updates pane.   2. Highlight the catalogs to import, or click Select All to highlight all the catalogs, and then click Import. The Summary page in the Import Software Updates Catalog Wizard opens and lists the source location for the selected catalogs.

  3. Click Next to import the catalogs.
