Duplicate configuration items in Configuration Manager 2007 are copies of configuration items that do not retain any relationship to the original configuration item. This means that the duplicate configuration item does not continue to inherit configuration from the original configuration item.
If the original configuration item was read-only, the duplicate configuration item can be fully edited for the properties that the Configuration Manager console can interpret.
The duplicate configuration item will by default be assigned the same name as the original configuration item, with a sequential number in parentheses as the suffix.
To create a duplicate configuration item
-
In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Desired Configuration Management / Configuration Items.
-
Right-click the configuration item that you want to duplicate, and then click Duplicate.
-
In the Item name dialog box, specify a name for the duplicate configuration item or accept the default name and then click OK.
