Authoring configuration items and configuration baselines in the Configuration Manager 2007 Configuration Manager console provides a graphical front end to the underlying Service Modeling Language (SML) schema. However, there might be times when you want to see or check the underlying code, which is in XML format. To do this, follow this procedure.

To view XML definitions of configuration items and baselines

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Desired Configuration Management.

  2. To view the XML definition of a configuration baseline, right-click the configuration baseline in the Configuration Baselines node, and then select View XML Definition.

  3. To view the XML definition of a configuration item, right-click the configuration item in the Configuration Items node and then select View XML Definition.

  4. The code appears in the default Web browser. Close this window when you have viewed the XML code.

    Note
For more information about the options on the desired configuration management home pages, see Configuration Baselines Home Page and Configuration Items Home Page.
