Determine If You Need To Create Duplicate Configuration Baselines or Duplicate Configuration Items for Desired Configuration Management

You might need to create duplicate configuration baselines in Configuration Manager 2007 for the following reasons:

You want to use a configuration baseline you have imported or inherited from a parent site, but you want to add or remove configuration items to the configuration rules.
You want to use a configuration baseline you have imported or inherited from a parent site, but you want to edit or remove the configuration items in the configuration baseline rules.
You have created a configuration baseline to use as a template for new, independent configuration baselines.

You might need to create duplicate configuration items for the following reasons:

You want to use a configuration item you have imported or inherited from a parent site, but you want to edit or remove properties in the configuration item.
You have created a configuration item to use as a template for new, independent configuration items.

Important
When you create a duplicate configuration baseline or configuration item, the duplicate does not retain a relationship to the original configuration data. Therefore, if the original configuration data is upgraded, any revisions are not passed to the duplicate configuration baseline or configuration item.
