You should verify that the Backup Site Server maintenance task is running successfully after you schedule it to ensure that you are prepared to recover the site if it fails, and also to help plan for disaster recovery. To do so, you should ensure that the time stamps on the files in the backup destination folder created by the Backup Site Server maintenance task match the last time that the maintenance task should have run.

If the time stamps on the files in the backup destination folder do not match the last time that the Backup Site Server maintenance task was scheduled to run, you should review the SMS_SITE_BACKUP component for warnings and errors.

To determine if a site backup is successful by reviewing status messages

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / System Status / Site Status / <site name> / Component Status.

  2. In the results pane, right-click SMS_SITE_BACKUP, click Show Messages, and then click Error. Review any status messages returned for errors. If SMS_SITE_BACKUP does not appear in the details pane, ensure that site backup is enabled.

  3. In the results pane, right-click SMS_SITE_BACKUP, click Show Messages, and then click Warning. Review any status messages returned for warnings. If SMS_SITE_BACKUP does not appear in the results pane, ensure that site backup is enabled.

    Note
If no warning or error status messages are displayed, the backup service is running successfully; otherwise, try to determine the cause of the error or warning message.
