The Backup ConfigMgr Site Server maintenance task backs up a Configuration Manager 2007 site, including the Configuration Manager 2007 site database, Configuration Manager 2007 files, registry keys, and system configuration information. Backing up your site is an essential step when preparing the site for recovery in case of site failure. When recovering a failed site, having a comprehensive site backup snapshot greatly helps in restoring the site to its original state as quickly as possible.

---|
Using a third-party backup tool to back up your Configuration Manager 2007 site is not supported by the Configuration Manager Site Repair Wizard. Only site backups created by the Backup ConfigMgr Site Server task can be used to recover a site by the Configuration Manager Site Repair Wizard. |
Specify the backup destination folder in local format (for example, C:\Sitebackups) or in UNC format (for example, \\server\share). If the path entered does not exist, it is created by the maintenance task.
Note |

The backup task will fail if you specify any backup destination within the Configuration Manager 2007 installation folder. |
