The Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) 3.0 administrator console is required on the Configuration Manager 2007 site server to allow the site server and remote Configuration Manager consoles to configure and synchronize software update points. The WSUS 3.0 Administration console can be installed using the wizard or installed silently from a command line.

Use one of the following procedures to install the WSUS 3.0 administrator console on the Configuration Manager site server.
To install the WSUS 3.0 Administration console using the Setup wizard

Download the WSUS installer file from the Windows Server Update Services Home Web page (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=88321) and save it to a location accessible from the server that will install WSUS.

Double-click the WSUS installation file, WSUSSetup.exe.

Click Next, select Administration Console Only, and then click Next.

Click I accept the terms of the License agreement, and then click Next.

If the Required Components to use administration UI page displays, click Next. The Microsoft Report Viewer 2005 Redistributable is required to open the WSUS 3.0 Administration console UI, which is not required when using Configuration Manager 2007.

Click Finish when the wizard completes.

Click the Start button, click All Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Microsoft Windows Server Update Services 3.0 to verify that the console installed successfully. To verify connectivity connect to the WSUS server that will be configured as the active software update point. Close the console after verifying that has been installed.
To install the WSUS 3.0 Administration console silently

Download the WSUS installer file from the Windows Server Update Services Home Web page (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=88321) and save it to a location accessible from the server that will install WSUS.

Install the WSUS 3.0 Administration console on the site server by running the following command line in the folder where the WSUS installer file was downloaded:
WSUSSetup.exe /q CONSOLE_INSTALL=1
The WSUS 3.0 Administration console installs silently on the site server.

Click the Start button, click All Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Microsoft Windows Server Update Services 3.0 to verify that the console installed successfully. To verify connectivity connect to the WSUS server that will be configured as the active software update point. Close the console after verifying that has been installed.
