Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 status messages report information about Configuration Manager 2007 component behavior and data flow. Configuration Manager 2007 status messages are categorized by severity and type.

Configuration Manager 2007 provides a number of tools to help you manage the large numbers of status messages that might be generated on a typical site. These include queries, which allow you to perform searches on all status messages stored in the site database; status filter rules, which allow you to initiate actions when a specified status message is generated, such as reporting to the Windows Event Log; and filters, which allow you to limit the results shown in the Configuration Manager 2007 ConfigMgr Status Message Viewer.

Important
The status of a Configuration Manager 2007 site reported in the Configuration Manager console is not a real-time indicator of the health of the site. If you correct a problem indicated by the site status, it might take some time for the status summarizers to collect new status messages and show the new site status. If you want to monitor the health of your Configuration Manager 2007 site in real time, you should use a tool such as Microsoft System Center Operations Manager.

The topics in this section provide detailed information about using status messages to help manage and troubleshoot a Configuration Manager 2007 site.
