Configuration baselines in Configuration Manager 2007 reference predefined configuration items and configuration baseline rules around those configuration items. You can import a configuration baseline if it is in a cabinet (cab) file format and adheres to the supported Service Modeling Language (SML) schema.
You can import configuration data from the following sources:
- Configuration baselines that have been
downloaded from the Microsoft System Center Configuration
Manager 2007 Configuration Pack Web page (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=71837).
- Configuration baselines that have been
exported from Configuration Manager 2007.
- Configuration baselines that have been
externally authored and conform to the SML schema.
When you import a configuration baseline, some or all of the configuration items that are referenced in the configuration baseline might also be included in the cabinet file. During the import process, Configuration Manager verifies that all of the configuration items that are referenced in the configuration baseline are either also included in the cabinet file, or already exist in the Configuration Manager 2007 site. The import process will fail if you attempt to import a configuration baseline that references configuration data that Configuration Manager cannot locate.
Other scenarios where the import process might fail include the following:
- You try to import a configuration baseline
that references configuration items that already exist in the
Configuration Manager 2007 site, but are older versions than the
same configuration items in the Configuration Manager 2007
site.
- You try to import a configuration baseline
with the same name as one that already exists, and it has the same
configuration baseline version but a different content version. For
more information about configuration baseline versions and content
versions, see About Content Versions
in Desired Configuration Management.
- You export a configuration baseline, delete
the configuration baseline from the site, and import it before the
original configuration baseline has aged out. By default, deleted
configuration data is retained in the database for 90 days and the
site maintenance task Delete Aged Configuration Management
Data runs once a week. To successfully import configuration
data that has been recently deleted, temporarily configure the
Delete Aged Configuration Management Data task so that the
value for Delete data older than (days) is sufficiently low
to delete the original configuration data, and schedule the task to
run in the near future. For more information about this maintenance
task, see Delete
Aged Configuration Management Data Task Overview.
