In the event of a system failure or other problem, restoration of packages on a branch distribution point is greatly simplified if you have been periodically backing up those packages. These packages can be backed up and then restored locally, minimizing the bandwidth that would otherwise be required to redistribute the packages to the branch distribution point.

To back up packages on a branch distribution point

If necessary, disconnect users from the SMSPKG<driveletter>$ share on the branch distribution point.

Copy the contents of the SMSPKG<driveletter>$ share to backup media.
