There are several software updates components in Configuration Manager 2007. The software update point is not enabled by default, but once installed and configured it can be disabled, which results in the loss of software update compliance assessment data and the prevention of new software update deployments being created on the site server. The Software Updates Client Agent is enabled by default and can be disabled, which results in new software update compliance assessment data not being retrieved and the prevention of clients from receiving software update deployments. The Inventory Tool for Microsoft Updates can be removed when there is no longer the need to deploy software updates to Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 clients that are in the site hierarchy.
