Use this tab to configure how users can access distribution points for an image.
You can configure the following settings:
- Access distribution folder through common Configuration Manager 2007 package share
- The image is accessed through the common Configuration Manager 2007 package share (SMSPKGx$, where x is the drive letter) on distribution points. By default, this option is selected.
- Share distribution folder
- The image will be created on distribution points with an administrator-specified share and path name.
- Share name
- If you select Share distribution point, enter a unique
share name and path to be created for the image source files on
distribution points. See the section Share names later in
this document.
ImportantDo not specify a folder that is in use by another process. If the folder that you specify contains files, these files might be overwritten.
- Package update settings
- Specify the disconnect settings that will take effect when Configuration Manager 2007 updates images on distribution points.
- Disconnect users from distribution points
- Select this option to notify users before disconnecting them from distribution points when Configuration Manager 2007 updates package data. By default, this check box is cleared.
- Number of retries before disconnecting users
- The number of times that Configuration Manager 2007 tries to update the image source files before disconnecting users who are connected to the distribution point. The default setting is 2; you can specify 0 to 99, inclusive.
- User grace period
- The number of minutes Configuration Manager 2007 should wait after notifying users before disconnecting them from distribution points. The default setting is 5 minutes; you can specify 0 to 59 minutes, inclusive.
Share Names
If you select Share distribution point, enter a unique share name and path to be created for the image source files on distribution points. The value can either be a share, which must be unique among all images and Configuration Manager 2007 packages, or a share and a path, where the path must be unique among all images and Configuration Manager 2007 packages. See the following table for examples.

| Do not enter a full Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path in Share name, such as \\server\share. Enter only the name of the shared folder on distribution points. |
If the share name is entered as a share only, as in the first example, all files and subdirectories within that share will be deleted and re-created each time the package is updated or refreshed. If the share name is entered as a share name and a path, only the bottom path (XPPro and Vista in the above examples) will be deleted and re-created each time the package is updated or refreshed.
To control which drive either the default or custom package folder is created on, assign the distribution point role to a server share instead of a server computer. For more information, see Site Systems Configuration Overview. For distribution points on server shares, if a share name is entered for an image, it is treated as a path beneath the distribution point share (\\MyServer\MyShare), as shown in the following table:
