The following checklists include the tasks required for using the Application Compatibility Toolkit Connector (ACT Connector).

Identifying Installed Applications

Use the following procedure to identify the applications that are currently installed on computers on the network. The Application Compatibility Connector (ACT) will use the information collected to create a list of all applications that will be evaluated for Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP compatibility.

Important
Before you deploy the data collection package you should configure and run a Configuration Manager 2007 hardware inventory. For more information about using Configuration Manager 2007 inventory see: Inventory in Configuration Manager

Task Reference

Create the Inventory Data Collection Package (DCP)

Document the log processing share

  • Document the share location specified for Where to output collected data. This is the location where log files will be accessed by ACT when evaluating the collected information. The location specified is a network share configured when you set up ACT.

Distribute the DCP to Configuration Manager 2007 computers

  • Distribute the DCP to Configuration Manager 2007 computers using Configuration Manager 2007 software distribution. For more information about using Configuration Manager 2007 software distribution, see Software Distribution in Configuration Manager

Determining Application Compatibility

Use the following procedure to evaluate the applications installed on specific computers in a Configuration Manager 2007 collection.

Task Reference

Create the Inventory Data Collection Package (DCP)

  • You must create an ACT data collection package that will be distributed to each computer you want to evaluate. The first DCP you create inventories all applications that are currently installed. When you create this ACT package, select Inventory Selector.

Create the Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP Compatibility Evaluator DCP

  • You must create a second DCP that will be used to collect information about installed applications on specific computers. When you create this ACT package, select Windows Compatibility Evaluator.

Distribute the DCP to Configuration Manager 2007 computers

  • You must distribute the DCP to Configuration Manager 2007 computers that have the applications installed you want to evaluate for compatibility. For more information about using Configuration Manager 2007 software distribution, see Software Distribution in Configuration Manager.
