The Deployment Template Wizard allows you to create a template, which stores many of the software update deployment properties. Deployment templates can be used when creating software update deployments to ensure consistency in similar deployments and to save time. For more information, see About Deployment Templates in Software Updates.
Opening the Deployment Template Wizard
Use the following procedure to open the Deployment Template Wizard.
To open the Deployment Template Wizard
-
In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Updates / Deployment Templates.
-
Right-click Deployment Templates, and then click New Deployment Template.
Properties Configured in the Deployment Template Wizard
The following properties are configured in the Deployment Template Wizard and saved in a deployment template:
- Template name and description:
Specifies the name and description for the deployment template.
- Collection: Specifies the target
collection for the deployment. Members of the collection receive
the software updates defined in the deployment. Templates can be
created without a collection so that one deployment template can be
used during a phased deployment where collections change over
time.
- Display settings: Specifies whether
users are notified of pending software updates and see the update
installation progress.
- Time settings: Specifies whether a
client evaluates the deployment schedule based on local time or
UTC, and the duration setting that is used to set the default
deadline time in a deployment.
- Restart settings: Specifies the system
restart behavior when a software update installs on a client and
requires a restart to complete, and when maintenance windows are
configured.
- Event generation setting: Specifies
whether to disable Microsoft Operations Manager alerts during
software update installation and whether an Operation Manager alert
is created when a software update installations fails.
- Download settings: Specifies the
behavior for software update installation when clients are within a
"slow or unreliable" network boundary and when clients are within
the boundaries of a protected distribution point that does not
contain the software update.
- SMS 2003 settings: Specifies
whether to generate a special deployment for System Management
Server (SMS) 2003 clients that are in the software updates
target collection. When this setting is enabled, the template can
only be used for software updates that are deployable to
SMS 2003.
After successfully completing the Deployment Template Wizard, the new template is displayed in the Configuration Manager console at System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Updates / Deployment Templates. The Refresh action might be needed on the Deployment Templates console tree node before the new template displays.
