Windows CE	4.2 (ARM processor only), or 5.0 (ARM and x86 processors) Note Windows CE 4.2 support requires the mobile device client distributed with the System Management Server (SMS) 2003 Device Management Feature Pack. This client supports hardware inventory, software inventory, file collection, and software distribution only in mixed mode. Windows CE 4.2 is not supported in native mode. Some Configuration Manager 2007 client features, such as operating system deployment, are not supported for the mobile device client. For more information about managing devices with Configuration Manager, see Overview of Mobile Device Management.

Configuration Manager 2007 Active Directory schema extensions provide many benefits for Configuration Manager 2007 sites, but they are not required for all Configuration Manager 2007 features. For more information about Active Directory schema extension considerations, see Decide If You Should Extend the Active Directory Schema.

If you have extended your Active Directory schema for SMS 2003, you should update your schema extensions for Configuration Manager 2007. Updating the Active Directory schema for Configuration Manager 2007 can be performed before or after upgrading to Configuration Manager and will not interfere with existing SMS 2003 site or client functionality. When installing Configuration Manager 2007, the site database can be installed on either the default instance or a named instance of a supported SQL Server version installation. The instance used to host the site database can also be configured as a SQL Server failover cluster instance in an active/passive cluster, or multiple instance, configuration.

The following table describes the versions of SQL Server supported to host the Configuration Manager 2007 site database.

Note
Installing the site database on Itanium 64-bit platforms is not supported.

Important

When using SQL Server 2008 to host the site database for a Configuration Manager 2007 site with no service pack installed, you must apply the following update to the site server computer, SMS Provider computer, and any computers hosting a remote Configuration Manager 2007 console: Microsoft article ID 955229 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=134671). This update can be installed before or after configuring the site database to be hosted by SQL Server 2008.
