Software updates in Configuration Manager 2007 can be downloaded to a deployment package from the Download Updates Wizard and the Update List Wizard, which allow administrators to provision distribution points with software update source files prior to deploying them, or from the Deploy Software Updates Wizard, which downloads the software updates as part of the deployment.

The source files for software updates that have been downloaded are stored at the network shared folder that was specified when creating the deployment package and also as compressed packages on child sites. The update source files are then copied to the distribution points defined in the package.

The Manage Distribution Points Wizard can be used to add the deployment package to new distribution points, refresh the package on selected distribution points, update all distribution points with a new package source version, or remove the package from selected distribution points. Use the following procedure to open the Manage Distribution Points Wizard to manage the distribution points defined in a deployment package.

To manage the distribution points defined in a deployment package

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Updates / Deployment Packages / <deployment package name> / Distribution Points.

  2. Right-click Distribution Points, and then click Manage Distribution Points to open the Manage Distribution Points Wizard.
