The procedure for remotely administering client computers in Configuration Manager 2007 differs slightly depending on the operating system of the client computer being administered. Windows 2000 client computers continue to use the same remote tools as those found in SMS 2003.

The user account under which the Configuration Manager administrator is logged in must be added to the Permitted Viewers list for the Remote Tools Client Agent in order to remotely administer client computers. |
Remotely Administer a Windows XP or later Client Computer
To remotely administer a Windows XP or later client computer:

In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Collections.

Select a collection containing the client you wish to remotely administer.

Right-click the client computer you wish to remotely administer, click Start and then click Remote Tools.

The Configuration Manager Remote Control window will open containing a view onto the screen of the selected client computer.

When you are finished with the remote control session, close the Configuration Manager 2007 Remote Control window.
Remotely Administer a Windows 2000 Client Computer
To remotely administer a Windows 2000 client computer:

In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Collections.

Select a collection containing the client you wish to remotely administer.

Right-click the client computer you wish to remotely administer, click Start and then click Remote Tools.

In the Remote Tools window, click the Remote Control button to start the session.

The Remote Control window will open containing a view onto the screen of the selected client computer.

When you are finished with the remote control session, close the Remote Control and Remote Tools windows.
