Although Configuration Manager 2007 can automatically inventory computer hardware information from clients by simply enabling the hardware inventory client agent, additional information that is not reported by default can be collected by extending hardware inventory.
Hardware inventory can be extended by inventorying additional WMI classes, additional WMI class attributes, registry keys, and other customizations to accommodate your organization's requirements. Hardware inventory can also be modified to reduce the amount of information reported by clients during hardware inventory. For example, you may want to inventory default or custom WMI data class information or registry keys not inventoried by default or reduce the amount of information that is reported by default hardware inventory.
