The computer client agent is installed and enabled on all client computers in the Configuration Manager 2007 site. You can configure settings for the computer client agent such as settings that client computers use to communicate with Configuration Manager 2007 site systems, notification options for users of client computers and the behavior of client computers which require a restart.

Use the following procedure to configure the computer client agent.

Procedure

To configure the computer client agent:

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager/ Site Database /Site Management/ <site code> - <site name> /Client Agents

  2. Right-click Computer Client Agent, and then click Properties.

  3. On the General tab of the Computer Client Agent Properties dialog box, specify the network service account and the site-wide policy polling interval to use. For more information, see Computer Client Agent Properties: General Tab.

  4. On the Customization tab, specify organization-specific text that will be displayed to users of client computers when they receive Configuration Manager 2007 software packages. For more information see Computer Client Agent Properties: Customization Tab.

  5. On the Reminders tab, specify how often users of client computers are notified of approaching deadlines and mandatory assignment schedules. For more information, see Computer Client Agent: Reminders Tab.

  6. On the BITS tab, specify Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) bandwidth throttling settings to control network traffic between Configuration Manager 2007 clients and site systems. For more information, see Computer Client Agent: BITS Tab.

    Important
When you specify BITS settings using the Configuration Manager 2007 console, they are stored in the local policy of the client computer. These settings might override BITS settings configured by another application. Additionally, if you use Windows Group Policy to configure BITS settings, the settings specified in the Group Policy will override those configured by Configuration Manager 2007.
  7. On the Restart tab, specify site-wide notification settings to be used when a program requires a restart of the client computer. For more information, see Computer Client Agent Properties: Restart Tab.

  8. Click OK to close the Computer Client Agent Properties dialog box.

    Important
If a client computer is a member of multiple collections with different polling and restart intervals, it will use the shortest configured interval.
