Before changing site system software, all Configuration Manager 2007 services in use must be stopped. For example, this procedure can be followed when upgrading the operating system or service pack level of site system operating system software.

To change site system software

  1. Ensure that the site is properly backed up, and perform a test recovery in a test lab according to your disaster recovery plan.

  2. Use the hierarchy maintenance tool (Preinst.exe) to stop all Configuration Manager services by using the Preinst /stopsite command.

    Note
Using the Preinst /stopsite command will cause a partial site reset and cause site services to be reinstalled when the site is restarted.
  3. Change the software of the computer hosting the Configuration Manager site system components according to the relevant software documentation.

  4. After the software has been changed, restart the computer and verify that the site is operating normally after site services are reinstalled by site component manager.
