Software metering in Configuration Manager 2007 introduces a new feature that allows you to configure software metering to automatically generate disabled software metering rules from recent usage inventory data held in the Configuration Manager 2007 database. This can be configured so that only applications used on a specified percentage of computers will have metering rules created. You can also specify the maximum number of automatically generated software metering rules allowed on the site.
The following procedure provides the steps necessary to configure automatic software metering rule generation.
Note |
---|
Software metering rules that are automatically created are by default disabled. Before you can begin to collect usage data from these rules, you must enable them. |
To configure automatic software metering rule generation:
-
In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Metering.
-
Right-click the Software Metering node, and then click Properties.
-
In the General tab of the Software Metering Properties dialog box, specify the following:
- Enable the option to Auto-create disabled
metering rules from recent usage inventory data.
- Specify the percentage of computers in a
Configuration Manager 2007 site that must use a particular
executable before a software metering rule for that executable is
automatically created. The default value is 10 percent.
- Specify the number of rules after which no
new software metering rules will be automatically created. The
default value is 100 rules.
- Enable the option to Auto-create disabled
metering rules from recent usage inventory data.
-
Click OK.
