The following procedures allow you to check that the System Health Validator point in Configuration Manager 2007 is working correctly:

To verify that the System Health Validator point is installed correctly:

  • Look for Event ID 1015 from the SMS Server in the Application event log on the System Health Validator point, with the Task SMS_SYSTEM_HEALTH_VALIDATOR and the description that the Site Component Manager successfully installed this component on this site system. If you see this entry, the System Health Validator point is installed correctly. If this entry does not exist, the System Health Validator point is not installed correctly.

To verify that the System Health Validator service is running:

  • Look for Event ID 7036 from Source Service Control Manager in the System log with the description The SMS_SYSTEM_HEALTH_VALIDATOR service entered the running state. If you see this entry, the System Health Validator service is running. If this entry does not exist, the System Health Validator service is not running.

To verify that the System Health Validator point has successfully initialized:

  • Look for the following line in the %systemdrive%\SMSSHV\SMS_SHV\Logs\SmsSHV.log: Completed Phase 1 initialization. Service is now fully operational. If you see this entry, the System Health Validator point has successfully initialized. If this entry does not exist, the System Health Validator point has not successfully initialized.

To verify that the System Health Validator point has successfully retrieved Configuration Manager health state references from Active Directory Domain Services:

  • Look for the existence of the log file %systemdrive%\SMSSHV\SMS_SHV\Logs\SmsSHVADCacheClient.log. If this file exists, the System Health Validator point has successfully retrieved Configuration Manager health state references from Active Directory. If this file does not exist, the System Health Validator point has not successfully retrieved Configuration Manager health state references from Active Directory Domain Services.
