When a site is enabled for Wake On LAN, wake-up packets can be transmitted using a transmission method of either unicast (the default) or subnet-directed broadcast. The default port for the wake-up transmission is UDP port 9. However, you can select an alternative UDP port number using the Ports tab on the site properties.

To configure the port number for Wake On LAN packets, follow the procedure shown below.

To configure the ports used for Wake On LAN:

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Site Management.

  2. Right-click <site code> – <site name>, and then click Properties.

  3. On the Ports tab in the site properties dialog box, ensure Wake on LAN (UDP) is selected as an active port, right-click this entry, and then select Properties.

  4. In the Port Detail dialog box, specify the port number you want to use for wake-up transmissions and click OK.

  5. Click OK to close the site properties dialog box.
