You might need to author configuration baselines and configuration items for Configuration Manager 2007 outside the Configuration Manager console for the following reasons:
- In-house customized configuration data you
require is produced by administrators or developers who do not have
access to the Configuration Manager console.
- You prefer to write in XML rather than use a
Windows interface, and understand the DCM Digest schema.
- You require configuration data that the
Configuration Manager console cannot interpret, and you understand
the Service Modeling Language (SML) XML schema.
