When you create a Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 query, you are searching the Configuration Manager 2007 site database for the set of database objects that match one or more attributes of an Configuration Manager 2007 database object type. An object type is a set of attributes that represents a Configuration Manager 2007 database object, such as a client, a package, an advertisement, or a user group. All objects of a specific type, such as clients, packages, or users, are labeled and grouped together. Each object type has specific attributes that are useful to describe those objects. For example, clients have processor types but user groups do not.

Configuration Manager 2007 object types consist of one or more attribute classes. Attribute classes are container objects that group related attributes within an object type. Each attribute class contains the set of attributes that define the class. For example, the System Resource object type contains an attribute class called Processor with attributes such as CurrentClockSpeed and Manufacturer, and another attribute class called Disk with attributes such as Partitions and SCSIBus. The attributes within the chosen attribute class are used to construct the query.

A query can search against only one Configuration Manager 2007 object type at a time. By default, the System Resource object type is selected. The following Configuration Manager 2007 object types are available for queries.
