1 You must apply the following update to the site server computer, SMS Provider computer, and any computers hosting a remote Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 Configuration Manager console: Microsoft article ID 955262 at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=134674. This update applies when you use SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, and SQL Server 2008 R2 upgraded from SQL Server 2008.

Note
Installing the site database on Itanium 64-bit platforms is not supported.

Out of Band Management

Out of band management in Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 is supported for computers that have the Intel vPro chip set and Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT) for the following firmware versions:

  • Intel AMT version 3.2 with a minimum revision of 3.2.1

  • Intel AMT version 4.0 version 4.1, and version 4.2

  • Intel AMT version 5.0, and version 5.2 with a minimum revision of 5.2.10

In-band provisioning is not supported on AMT-based computers running any version of Windows Server.

The out of band management console is not supported on workstations running Windows XP on versions earlier than Service Pack 3, and on servers running Windows Server 2003 on versions earlier than Service Pack 2.

Out of band communication to an AMT-based computer is not supported if it is running the Routing and Remote Access service in the client operating system. This service runs when Internet Connection Sharing is enabled, or if it is enabled by line-of-business (LOB) applications.

For more information about Out of Band Management in Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, see Out of Band Management in Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 and Later.

Upgrade Considerations

This section describes important upgrade considerations for Configuration Manager 2007 SP1. For additional information about upgrading to Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, see Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 Upgrade Checklist.

Upgrading the site server operating system

The following scenario is not supported byConfiguration Manager: Upgrading the operating system on the site server from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008. Instead, perform one of the following procedures after you have installed the new operating system:

  • Install Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 and configure the site according to your requirements.

  • Install Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 and perform a site restore by using the Site Repair Wizard. This scenario requires that you have a site backup that was created by using the Backup ConfigMgr Site Server maintenance task on the original Configuration Manager site, and that you use the same installation settings for the new Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 site.

Starting with Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, Windows Server 2008 is a supported operating system to host the Configuration Manager site server role. Because it is not supported to perform in-place upgrades of Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 with a Configuration Manager 2007 site installed, you must either perform an initial installation of Configuration Manager 2007 with SP1 integrated on Windows Server 2008 or restore a Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 site backup created by the Configuration Manager 2007 site backup maintenance task to a new Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 installation with identical installation settings as the previous site installation on a computer running Windows Server 2008.

Upgrading SQL Server on the site database server

It is supported to perform an in-place upgrade of the instance of SQL Server hosting the Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 site database. The following upgrade paths are supported:

  • SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 20081

  • SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 R2

  • SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2008 R21

1 You must apply the following update to the site server computer, SMS Provider computer, and any computers hosting a remote Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 Configuration Manager console: Microsoft article ID 955262 at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=134674. This update applies when you use SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, and SQL Server 2008 R2 upgraded from SQL Server 2008.

For more information about changing site server software, see How to Change Site Server Software. Additionally, it is supported to move the site database to a new instance of SQL Server 2008. For information about moving the site database, see How to Move the Site Database.
