Software updates can be installed silently on client computers in Configuration Manager 2007 by selecting the Hide all deployments from end users setting in the Software Updates Client Agent properties. This setting specifies that display notifications and notification area icons for the software updates in all deployments will not display on client computers. When this setting is enabled, the Available Software Updates dialog box is not available and only the software updates in mandatory deployments will install silently on the configured deadline. Software updates in optional deployments will be hidden and not available to users. Hidden deployments will become visible on client computers when this setting is not enabled.

Use the following procedure to hide software updates on client computers.

To hide deployments on computers

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Site Management / <site code> - <site name> / Site Settings / Client Agents.

  2. Right-click Software Updates Client Agent, and then click Properties.

Click the Update Installation tab, and select Hide all deployments from end users.

  3. Click OK to exit the properties dialog box.
