Use the General tab of the Configuration Manager 2007 File or Folder Properties to define your own name and description for the file or folder object that will be assessed for compliance.

This tab contains the following elements:

Type

Specifies whether the object is a file or folder.
Path

Specifies the path to the specified file or folder on client computers. You can specify system environment variables and the %USERPROFILE% environment variable in the path.
Note
If you use the %USERPROFILE% environment variable in the Path or File or folder name fields, all user profiles on the client computer will be searched, which could result in multiple instances of the file or folder being found.
File or folder name

Specifies the name of the file or folder object that will be assessed for compliance. You can specify system environment variables and the %USERPROFILE% environment variable in the file or folder name. You can also use the wildcards * and ? in the filename.
Note
Specifying a file or folder name with wildcards may produce large numbers of results when the configuration baseline is assessed on client computers. This could result in high resource use on the client computer and also high network traffic when reporting non-compliance details to the Configuration Manager 2007 site server.
If the name pattern search depth used is Specified path, you cannot use wildcard characters in the file or folder name. If the name pattern search depth used is Specified path and the first level of subfolders, or Specified path and all subfolders, you must use wildcard characters in the file or folder name.
Name pattern search depth

Specifies the folder depth to which file and folder name searches will be performed.
  • Specified Path specifies that searches for file and folder objects will only be performed in the specified path. The exact file or folder name must be specified.

  • Specified path (pattern) specifies that searches for file and folder objects will only be performed in the specified path. When using this option, you must use wildcards in the file or folder name.

  • Specified path and all subfolders specifies that searches for file and folder objects will be performed in the specified path and all folders below this path in the folder tree. When using this option, you must use wildcards in the file or folder name.

Description

Specifies the description for the file or folder object. The description should give an overview of the file or folder object and other relevant information that helps identify it among other objects.
Is this file or folder from a 64-bit application?

Specifies whether the 64-bit system file location (%windir%\system32) should be searched in addition to the 32-bit system file location (%windir%\syswow64) on Configuration Manager 2007 clients running a 64-bit version of Windows.
  • No specifies that only the 32-bit system file location will be searched on clients running a 32-bit version of Windows or a 64-bit version of Windows.

  • Yes specifies that both the 32-bit and 64-bit registry keys will be searched on clients running a 64-bit version of Windows.

    Note
It is possible that the same file or folder could exist in both the 64-bit and 32-bit system file locations on the same 64-bit computer, which will result in desired configuration management finding multiple file or folder objects.
