Before you install a secondary site, you must first install a parent primary site. You can install a secondary site from the primary site by using the Secondary Site Creation Wizard from the parent site's Configuration Manager console or by running Configuration Manager 2007 Setup at the local secondary site computer. For more information about methods used to install secondary sites, see How to Install a Secondary Site.

Using the Secondary Site Creation Wizard

To install a new secondary site from the primary site, right-click the primary site name in the Configuration Manager console and click New Secondary Site to start the Secondary Site Creation Wizard. Completing the Secondary Site Creation Wizard will install the secondary site on the computer specified in the wizard. When using this secondary site installation method, Configuration Manager Setup files can either be transferred across the network connection to the secondary site computer or started from setup files located on a local drive on the remote secondary site computer. This method enables secondary sites to be installed without requiring an administrator at the secondary site server computer.

Using Configuration Manager Setup

Starting Configuration Manager Setup locally on the secondary site computer and selecting to install a secondary site can be helpful when there is an administrator at the remote secondary site computer or you want to avoid transferring the setup files across the network. This method requires that an address to the secondary site is manually created in the Configuration Manager console at the primary site.
