Use the Distribution Points tab to specify how Configuration Manager 2007 clients will interact with distribution points to retrieve the package content reference by the advertised task sequence.
The Distribution Points tab contains the following settings:
UI Element List
- Download content locally when needed by running task sequence
- Specifies whether an advertised program is downloaded only as files are needed by the Configuration Manager 2007 client computer. For multicast operating system deployment in Configuration Manager 2007 R2, only this method of distribution is supported.
- Download all content locally before running task sequence
- Specifies whether an advertised program is completely downloaded to the client computer before Configuration Manager 2007 attempts to run the program.
- Access content directly from a distribution point when needed by a running task sequence
- Specifies whether an advertised program is run directly form a distribution point. This option should be selected for low bandwidth network connections.
- When no local distribution point is available, use a remote distribution point
- Specifies whether the Configuration Manager 2007 client will use a remote distribution point if a local distribution is not available.
- When no protected distribution point is available, use an unprotected distribution point
- Specifies whether Configuration Manager 2007 will permit a
client to use an unprotected distribution point if content is not
immediately available on its protected distribution point, or if it
forces a client to use the protected local distribution point if it
is within the boundaries for that point. If this check box is
selected, a client will use distribution points based on the
following criteria:
- If a protected distribution point with the content provisioned
is detected, the client will use a protected distribution
point.
- If a protected distribution point is detected but the content
does not appear to be present (such as with network problems), the
client will continue to check the protected distribution point for
eight hours and then use an unprotected distribution point.
- If no protected distribution with the content is detected, the
client will use an unprotected distribution point.
- If a protected distribution point with the content provisioned
is detected, the client will use a protected distribution
point.
