The Deployment Packages console tree node in Configuration Manager 2007 displays packages that have been used to host software updates. As the console tree node is expanded, all deployment packages that have been created are displayed, which can then be expanded further to display the Access Accounts, Distribution Points, and Software Updates console tree nodes. The Deployment Packages console tree node and sub nodes are located in the console tree as follows:

System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Updates / Deployment Packages

Note
Before information is available in any of the deployment package console tree nodes, software updates must be downloaded, packaged, and copied to the distribution point by using the Deploy Software Updates Wizard, Download Updates Wizard, or Update List Wizard. For more information, see How to Create a Deployment Package.

UI Element List

Upon clicking the Deployment Packages console tree node or sub nodes, the Configuration Manager console contains the following elements:

The following sections describe the Deployment Packages console tree node and sub nodes.

Deployment Packages

The Deployment Packages console tree node in Configuration Manager 2007, when highlighted, displays the following information about all software update deployment packages:

  • Package Name: Specifies the name for the deployment package.

  • Package ID: Specifies the unique ID for the deployment package that is generated by Configuration Manager.

Deployment Package Name

The deployment package name console tree nodes display the Access Accounts, Distribution Points, and Software Updates sub nodes, and allow the deployment package property settings to be modified, such as package name, data access settings, distribution settings, and security settings. For more information, Deployment Package Name Properties

Access Accounts

The Access Accounts console tree node specifies which accounts can access the deployment package folder on the distribution point. By default, the Administrators account has Full Control and Users have Read access. The access accounts for each deployment package are managed at this location.

Distribution Points

The Distribution Points console tree node specifies the distribution points that store the software updates contained in the deployment package. Clients must have access to at least one distribution point to install deployed software updates. Therefore, you should specify for each deployment package a group of distribution points that can be accessed by clients that have been targeted for deployment. The distribution points for each deployment package are managed at this location.

Software Updates

The Software Updates console tree node specifies which software updates are in the deployment package. The updates can be removed from the package, the properties for the software updates can be modified, or the update content can be refreshed by retrieving them from the update source location and updating the content on the distribution points. For information about adding software updates to deployment packages, see How to Add Software Updates to a Deployment Package. The following information is displayed for each software update that is in the deployment package:

  • Date Released: Specifies the date that the software update was released.

  • Date Revised: Specifies the date that the software update was last modified.

  • Deployable to SMS 2003: Specifies whether the software update can be deployed to SMS 2003 clients.
