Software update deployments in Configuration Manager 2007 can be modified in the properties for the specific deployment. After the deployment properties are modified on the site server, clients will receive the updated deployment on their next machine policy cycle. The following procedure provides the steps necessary to modify the deployment properties.

To modify deployment properties

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Updates / Deployment Management.

  2. In the results pane, right-click the desired deployment, and click Properties.

  3. In the <deployment name> Properties dialog box, the following properties can be modified:

    • Name and Description: Specifies the name and description of the deployment.

    • Collection: Specifies the collection that is targeted for the software update deployment.

    • Software Updates: Specifies the software updates that are currently in the deployment. To add software updates, click Add to open the Add Software Update dialog box and browse for downloaded updates, select the updates to add to the deployment, and then click OK. To remove updates from the deployment, highlight the update, and then click Remove. There is no limit to the number of software updates that can be in a deployment.

      Note
To add software updates to existing deployments, they must first be downloaded to a package using the Download Updates Wizard or be in a previously created deployment. Software updates that have not been downloaded will not appear in the Add Software Update dialog box.
    • Display/Time: Specifies whether users are notified of pending software updates and see the update installation progress, whether a client evaluates the deployment schedule based on local time or UTC, and the duration setting that is used to set the default deadline time in a deployment.

    • Restart Settings: Specifies the system restart behavior when a software update installs on a client and requires a restart to complete, and specifies whether system restarts are allowed outside of configured maintenance windows.

    • Event Generation: Specifies whether to disable Microsoft Operations Manager alerts during software update installation and whether an Operation Manager alert is created when a software update installations fails.

    • SMS 2003 Settings: Provides the option to deploy software updates to Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 clients. This setting is available when the deployment was created with only software updates deployable to SMS 2003 clients.

    • Schedule: Specifies when a software update deployment becomes active, when the software update installation will be enforced on clients, whether Wake On LAN will be enabled for the deployment, and whether to ignore maintenance windows and install at the deadline.

    • Download Settings: Specifies the behavior for software update installation when clients are within a "slow or unreliable" network boundary and when clients are within the boundaries of a protected distribution point that does not contain the software update.

    • Security: Specifies the class and instance security for the deployment object.
