The Configuration Manager device management point is an extension to the Configuration Manager 2007 management point or proxy management point. The device management point allows mobile devices to connect to Configuration Manager 2007 servers and receive policy and configuration settings. Mobile device management also allows mobile devices to report asset management information and status to Configuration Manager.

Prerequisite

To support distribution points for mobile devices, the following are required on the Configuration Manager site system:

  • Internet Information Services (IIS) must be installed and enabled.

  • Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) extensions for IIS must be enabled.

  • Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) extensions must be enabled.

Procedure

To configure the management point as a device management point, do the following:

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to server System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Site Management / <site code> - <site name> / Site Settings / Site Systems / <management point computer name>.

  2. In the results pane, right-click ConfigMgr management point, and click Properties. The ConfigMgr Management Point Properties dialog box is displayed.

  3. To enable the device management point role, select the Allow devices to use this management point check box.

  4. Click OK.
