Use the Membership Rules tab of the Configuration Manager 2007 <Collection Name> Properties dialog box to define rules that you can use to evaluate membership in the selected collection and set the collection update schedule.

The Membership Rules tab contains the following elements

Membership rules

Indicates the membership rules that are currently defined for the selected collection.The following options are available for managing membership rules:
  • Computer icon: Click to start the Create Direct Membership Rule Wizard, which enables you to select one or more resources to include in this collection.

  • Query icon: Click to open the Query Rule Properties dialog box, which enables you to define a new query-based membership rule.

  • Properties icon: Click to modify the selected membership rule.

  • Delete icon: Click to delete the selected membership rule.

The following columns are displayed for each membership rule:
  • Rule: Specifies the name of the membership rule.

  • Type: Specifies the type of the membership rule, either Direct (for a specific resource) and/or Query (for a query-based rule).

  • Limit To: Indicates whether the rule is limited to a collection.

    If the rule is limited, the name of the collection that limits the rule appears. If the rule is not limited, <Unlimited> appears.

Update this collection on a schedule

Specifies if the collection membership will be updated on a specific schedule. The default setting for most collections is once per day. (Collections created using the Distribution Software wizard have a default setting of every two hours).To set a custom schedule for updating the collection, click the Schedule button.
Dynamically add new resources

Applies only to Configuration Manager 2007 R3.
Specifies that Configuration Manager 2007 R3 periodically scans for new resources and updates a collections membership with only these new resources, independently of a full collection evaluation. When enabled for a collection, dynamic collection evaluation runs every 5 minutes.
OK

Saves the changes and exits the dialog box.
Cancel

Exits the dialog box without saving any changes.
Apply

Saves the changes and remains in the dialog box.
Help

Opens the help topic for this tab of the dialog box.
