Use the General tab of the Configuration Manager 2007 Registry Key Properties dialog box to specify the registry key that will be assessed for compliance.

This tab contains the following elements:

Hive

Specifies the hive for the registry key. The default value is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.Available hives:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER

  • HKEY_USERS

  • HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG

Key

Specifies the registry key name as it appears in a registry editor, for example Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer.
Is this registry key associated with a 64-bit application?

Specifies whether the 64-bit registry keys should be searched in addition to the 32-bit registry keys on Configuration Manager 2007 clients running a 64-bit version of Windows.No specifies that only the 32-bit registry keys will be searched on clients running a 32-bit version of Windows or a 64-bit version of Windows.Yes specifies that both the 32-bit and 64-bit registry keys will be searched on clients running a 64-bit version of Windows.
Note
It is possible that the same registry key could exist in both the 64-bit and 32-bit registry locations on the same 64-bit computer, which will result in desired configuration management finding multiple registry objects.
Report a non-compliance event when this instance count fails

If this box is selected, a non-compliance event of the specified severity will be recorded when the number of instances of an object or setting are not in the range specified.
Instance count operator

Use to validate the number of instances of an object or setting. Specify one of the following operators:
  • Equals

  • Not Equals

  • Greater Than

  • Less Than

  • Greater than or equal to

  • Less than or equal to

  • Between

  • One Of (specify values separated by spaces)

  • None Of (specify values separated by spaces)

The default value is Greater Than.
Values

Specifies the value to use with the selected operator.
AND

Specifies an additional value to use with the selected operator. This option is only available if the operator is set to Between.
Severity

Specifies the severity level if this registry key object instance count fails. This severity level will be displayed in conjunction with the non-compliance status and can report as a Windows event, which will be logged to the Windows application event log. Note that monitoring software such as Microsoft Operations Management (MOM) can be used to monitor the severity level for client computers out of compliance. For more information, see About the Non-Compliance Severity Level in Desired Configuration Management.Available severity levels:
  • Information - no Windows event messages Client computers that fail this instance count will not raise Windows events to record this event but will still report a non-compliance status in Configuration Manager 2007.

  • Information Computers that fail this instance count will raise the Windows event type of Informational. In addition, these computers will record this severity status in conjunction with their noncompliance status in Configuration Manager 2007.

  • Warning Computers that fail this instance count will raise the Windows event type of Warning. In addition, these computers will record this severity status in conjunction with their noncompliance status in Configuration Manager 2007.

  • Error Computers that fail this instance count rule raise the Windows event type of Error. In addition, these computers will record this severity status in conjunction with their noncompliance status in Configuration Manager 2007.

OK

Saves the changes and exits the dialog box.
Cancel

Exits the dialog box without saving any changes.
Help

Opens the help topic for this tab of the dialog box.
