When you are using Network Access Protection with Configuration Manager 2007, you might want to configure logging options on the Network Policy Server to help you identify and troubleshoot Network Access Protection operations.

The Network Policy Server can be configured to log to a local file (in either IAS format or Database-compatible format) and also to a Microsoft SQL Server. By default, the local file logs Accounting requests, Authentication requests, and Periodic status to a weekly file to the folder %windir%\system32\LogFiles with the file name IN<date>.log.

When using Configuration Manager Network Access Protection (NAP), consider changing the default logging creation interval to daily so that you can more easily locate the entries you need.

To modify the logging configuration on the Network Policy Server, follow these steps:

  1. Load the Network Policy Server console.

  2. Click the Accounting node.

  3. Right-click Local File, and then click Properties.

  4. Click the Log File tab to modify the logging folder, the format of the files, and when a new log file should be created.
