Power management in Configuration Manager 2007 R3 has both external dependencies and dependencies within the product.

Configuration Manager 2007 R3 Dependencies

The following table lists the dependencies within Configuration Manager 2007 R3 for using power management.

Site server must be running Configuration Manager 2007 R3.

Primary and secondary site servers in your hierarchy must have the hotfix KB977384 installed and be running Configuration Manager 2007 R3. If the SMS Provider is running on a remote server, you must also install the hotfix on this server. You can obtain the hotfix from the Microsoft Support web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=199896).

Computers running the Configuration Manager console must have the hotfix KB977384 and Configuration Manager 2007 R3 installed.

Upgrade each computer running the Configuration Manager console with the hotfix and Configuration Manager 2007 R3. If you do not upgrade the Configuration Manager console, you will not be able to use any of the new features of Configuration Manager 2007 R3.

The Configuration Manager 2007 hardware inventory client agent must be enabled for the site on which you are using power management.

Power management in Configuration Manager 2007 R3 uses information collected by hardware inventory. To use power management, you must first enable hardware inventory for the site.

The site must be enabled for power management.

Before you can use power management in Configuration Manager 2007 R3, you must enable the power management client agent. For more information see How to Enable or Disable the Power Management Client Agent

Hotfix KB977384 must be applied to client computers.

To use power management in Configuration Manager 2007 R3, you must deploy the hotfix KB977384 supplied with Configuration Manager 2007 R3 to client computers in your organization. You can obtain the hotfix from the Microsoft Support web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=199896).

Dependencies External to Configuration Manager 2007 R3

The following table lists the dependencies external to Configuration Manager 2007 R3 for using power management.

The site must have access to an installation of SQL Server Reporting Services.

Power management in Configuration Manager 2007 R3 uses SQL Server Reporting Services to display reports. SQL Server Reporting Services must be installed and configured for Configuration Manager 2007 before you can display these reports. Client computers must be able to support the required power states.

To use all features of power management, client computers must be able to support the sleep, hibernate, wake from sleep, and wake from hibernate actions. You can use the Power Capabilities report to determine if computers can support these actions. For more information, see About the Power Capabilities Report for Power Management.
