Use the General tab of the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Mobile Device Client Agent properties dialog box to specify how frequently the mobile device client polls the management point for new configuration settings and advertisements. This is called the poll interval. If the client fails to contact the device management point, it retries the connection.
The management point collects information about the mobile device including:
- Software inventory
- Hardware inventory
- Files on the mobile device
To conserve network bandwidth, you can increase the poll interval time as more devices are added to the Configuration Manager 2007 site.
This tab contains the following elements:
- Poll interval
- Specifies how frequently the device client polls the device management point for new configuration settings and advertisements. You can specify 1 to 59 minutes or 1 to 23 hours. By default, this interval is set to 30 minutes. A six hour polling interval provides adequate frequency for most environments.
- Retry delay
- Specifies the interval between retries if the client fails to
connect to the device management point. You can specify 1 to 59
minutes or 1 to 23 hours. By default, this interval is set to 3
minutes.
Note The polling interval must be less than the retry delay multiplied by the number of retries.
- Number of retries
- Specifies the number of retries if the client fails to contact the device management point. You can specify 0 to 99 retries. By default, this interval is set to 3 retries.
- OK
- Saves the changes and exits the dialog box.
- Cancel
- Exits the dialog box without saving any changes.
- Apply
- Saves the changes and remains in the dialog box.
