Configuration baselines in Configuration Manager 2007 contain configuration items with associated configuration baseline rules. There are fixed types of configuration baseline rules that cannot be changed, but by associating configuration items with each of them, you effectively modify the configuration baseline rules.

The available rules for each configuration baseline are as follows:

To modify the rules within a configuration baseline

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Desired Configuration Management / Configuration Baselines.

  2. Right-click the configuration baseline you want to modify, and click Properties.

  3. Click the Rules tab, and locate the rule you want to modify.

  4. If you want to add a configuration item to the selected rule, click the rule and in the Add Required Configuration Items dialog box, select the configuration item to add and click OK.

  5. If you want to remove a configuration item from the selected rule, select the configuration item under the rule, and click Delete.

  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for additional rules you want to modify.

  7. Click OK to save the changes and exit the configuration baseline properties dialog box.
