The information in this topic can be used to troubleshoot upgrading Active Directory schema extensions for Configuration Manager when using a Lightweight Directory Interchange Format (LDIF) file if the Active Directory schema was previously extended for Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003.

When Using an LDIF File to Extend the Active Directory Schema, All Required Management Point Object Attributes Might Not Be Created

If the Active Directory schema has already been extended for SMS 2003 and you use the default ConfigMgr_ad_schema.ldf file to extend the schema for Configuration Manager, all of the required attributes for the management point object in Active Directory Domain Services are not added. Specifically, the following three attributes are not added:

  • mSSMSCapabilities

  • mSSMSVersion

  • mSSMSSourceForest

Without these attributes present in the Active Directory schema, Configuration Manager 2007 client assignment will fail unless a server locator point is available and has been specified during client installation.

Solution

To ensure that all required management point object attributes are properly added when using an LDIF file to extend the Active Directory schema, follow the "To upgrade existing SMS 2003 schema extensions" procedure in the topic How to Extend the Active Directory Schema Using an LDIF File.
