Use the General tab of Configuration Manager 2007 configuration item properties to modify its name and description, to view its properties (such as when it was created and last modified), and to view any assigned configuration categories.

This tab contains the following elements:

Name

Specifies the name of the configuration item. The name should be unique for the configuration item type, and it should be descriptive.
Description

Specifies the description for the configuration item. The description should give an overview of the configuration item and other relevant information that helps identify it among others in the Configuration Items node of the Configuration Manager 2007 console. You can use a maximum of 256 characters for the description.
Properties

Displays the following properties of the configuration item:
  • The configuration item type

  • The version number

  • The site code where it was created

  • The date and time of creation in coordinated universal time (UTC).

  • The Windows user account used to create the configuration item

  • The date and time of last modification in coordinated universal time (UTC).

  • The Windows user account used for the last modification

Assigned categories to improve searching and filtering

Displays the categories (if any) that have been assigned to this configuration item.
Categories

Opens the Categories dialog box from where you can assign, modify or remove a category for this configuration item and also create new categories and delete existing categories.
OK

Saves the changes and exits the dialog box.
Cancel

Exits the dialog box without saving any changes.
Apply

Saves the changes and remains in the dialog box.
Help

Opens the help topic for this tab of the dialog box.
