After you install Configuration Manager 2007, apply a service pack (or upgrade a site), or perform a site reset, you can check the Configuration Manager 2007 setup log file (ConfigMgrSetup.log) located at the root of the system drive for the string Configuration Manager Setup completed successfully. This entry indicates that Configuration Manager 2007 Setup successfully completed the required installation tasks. However, this does not necessarily mean that other Configuration Manager 2007 processes have completed their own tasks associated with setup or site reset. To review installation tasks performed by site component manager, after initial Setup tasks have completed, you can review the ComponentSetup.log file located at the root of the system drive. In addition, the following logs, located in the <ConfigMgr install directory>\logs directory, should also be reviewed for specific activity:

Sitecomp.log

This log verifies that Configuration Manager 2007 components have been installed (or in the case of a site reset, were reinstalled) successfully.
Inboxmgr.log

This log verifies that inboxes have been successfully created on the Configuration Manager 2007 site server and the management point.

Procedures

To verify Configuration Manager components have been installed correctly by reviewing the Sitecomp.log file

  1. Search for Processing site shutdown transaction. In the case of a site reset, this entry represents the first occurrence of the site being shut down. Subsequent lines in the log indicate that other individual services were stopped and status messages were generated to indicate that the service stopped.

  2. Search for Site shutdown complete. In the case of a site reset, this entry represents the first occurrence of the site shut down having completed. This should have occurred when the update installation signaled Configuration Manager 2007 to perform the site reset. Subsequent lines in the log indicate that other individual services were being reinstalled. This might take several minutes to complete.

  3. Search for Waiting for changes to the “<ConfigMgr install directory>\Inboxes\Sitectrl.box” or “<ConfigMgr install directory>\Inboxes\Sitecomp.box” directories. This entry indicates that Site Component Manager has completed its work for the site installation or reset.

To verify that site information has been published to Active Directory Domain Services by reviewing the Hman.log file

  1. Search for Wait for site control changes for maximum 3600 seconds. This entry indicates that Hierarchy Manager has completed its work for the site installation or reset.

  2. In the lines previous to this entry, you should see entries related to publishing Configuration Manager 2007 site data to Active Directory Domain Services (if the Active Directory schema has been extended for Configuration Manager 2007 and the site is configured to publish site data to Active Directory Domain Services).

To verify the successful creation of inboxes by reviewing the Inboxmgr.log file

  • Search for Waiting for changes inbox definition, inbox rules and inbox replication files, max wait = 3600 seconds. This entry indicates that Configuration Manager 2007 Inbox Manager has completed its work for the site installation or reset.
