Installing a Primary Site

Before You Begin

Systems Management Server is a powerful and sophisticated tool for systems management. Such sophistication requires that care be taken in preparing for an SMS primary site installation. This chapter begins by introducing the relationship between SMS and SQL Server. It then provides important pre-installation, installation, and post-installation procedures that typically occur in the creation of a primary site server.

To do the exercises in this chapter, you must first follow the instructions for installing Windows NT Server and SQL Server, as explained in "About This Book." Then log on to Computer 1 as Administrator. If you have not completed these steps, please review "About This Book" now and prepare your computer for the exercises in this chapter.
