For a site hierarchy to function, the sites in the hierarchy must communicate with each other. In particular, each site must communicate with its parent site and its immediate child sites. (However, occasionally a site might also need to communicate with other sites in the hierarchy.) In SMS, intersite communication requires both senders and addresses.
