Basic Searching Overview

You can search help topics using any word, not just those that have been defined as keywords in the index. To do so, use the Search tab in the Help Viewer.

To perform a basic search, you can use a single word or phrase. To create more complex searches, you use search queries that can include wildcard characters and nested expressions.

When searching for help topics, keep the following guidelines in mind:

Note   If you are searching for a file name with an extension, group the entire string in double quotation marks (for example, "filename.ext"). Otherwise, the period will break the file name into two separate words. The default operator between terms is AND, so you will create the logical equivalent of "filename AND ext".
