Set Up a Package Source Directory

A package source directory contains all the files and subdirectories needed to run the programs in a package. When you create a package, you specify this directory and SMS sends all the files and subdirectories to the distribution points specified for the package.

  1. Copy the software files to a local or network location that the SMS Service account can access.
  2. -or-

Insert the software disk or compact disc in a drive that the site server can access.

  3. If any of the package's programs requires an installation script, place the script in the package source directory.
  4. To simplify the program, place the installation script or other auxiliary files in the source directory rather than one of its subdirectories.
