Create a Local Domain SMS Service Account in a Windows NT Domain

  1. Create a user account to serve as the SMS Service account in the Windows NT domain that you want to add to the SMS site. (For more information about creating user accounts in a Windows NT domain, see your Windows NT product documentation.)

  2. Caution    Make sure that the SMS Service account password is different than the account name, because Windows NT and NetWare servers can be configured to prohibit accounts with passwords that are the same as the account name.

  3. Add the SMS Service account to the Domain Admins global group.

    For a greater level of security, add the SMS Service account to the local Administrators group on all SMS site systems. (In this case, you must also specify the SMS Client Remote Installation account.)

  4. Grant the Log on as a service right to the SMS Service account.
