There are several log files for the Custom Updates Publishing Tool. The Setup process is logged to PTBootstrappersetup.log and PublishingToolsetup.log, actions taken in the console are logged to PublishingTool.log, and the synchronization process is logged to PublishingToolSync.log. All log files are in the current user's temporary folder, located by default at %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp. The following table lists the log files and describes what type of information is found each.

Log File Name Description

PTBootstrappersetup.log

Contains information about whether the minimum requirements have been met during the initial phase of the Custom Updates Publishing Tool Setup. If the installation is unsuccessful, review PTBootstrappersetup.log for errors related to meeting the minimum system requirements and the detection of SQL. Review PublishingToolSetup.log for errors related to the other phases of Setup.

PublishingTool.log

Contains information for all actions taken in the Custom Updates Publishing Tool. If there are publishing tool issues other than Setup or synchronization, review PublishingTool.log for error messages that might indicate what caused the issues to occur.

PublishingToolsetup.log

Contains information about the Custom Updates Publishing Tool Setup. If the installation is unsuccessful, review the PublishingToolsetup.log file for error messages that might indicate what caused the installation to fail.

PublishingToolsync.log

Contains information for the Custom Updates Publishing Tool synchronization task. If with the synchronization is unsuccessful, review the PublshingToolsync.log file for error messages that might indicate what caused the synchronization to fail.
