  5. Configure the following on the Distribution Settings page:

    • Specify the name that is used for the Inventory Tool for Custom Updates SMS objects. By default, Setup uses Custom Updates Tool.

    • The Distribute inventory tool package to all distribution points setting is selected by default. This sends the inventory tool package to all distribution points on the site. To send the package to a limited number of distribution points, clear this item, and when Setup completes, select the distribution points manually from the SMS Administrator console.

    • The Advertise inventory tool to test and production collections setting is selected by default. This instructs the Setup wizard to create an inventory tool advertisement and a test and production collection. If this setting is not selected, you must manually create these objects in the SMS Administrator console prior to distributing the inventory scan tool to clients.

    • When the previous setting is selected, you must specify the NetBIOS name of an existing SMS Advanced Client computer to use as a test computer. During testing, custom updates are deployed to the test computer and you can verify whether the components are working as expected.
